Why it matters

OpenBot is being discussed because its focus on security and privacy, offering a unique approach to AI agent deployment by providing isolated computing environments for each agent. Its use of AG-UI protocol for agent-to-user interaction and the ability to run on a user's own machine without a hosted version are notable technical choices.

Architecture

OpenBot's architecture is modular, with separate components for the agent, computer, and server. It uses Docker for containerization, Bun for the app and API server, and PostgreSQL for data storage. The AG-UI protocol facilitates communication between agents and users. The gateway acts as a central control point for all actions, ensuring policy compliance and auditability.

Quick Start

1. Create `.env`: `cp.env.example.env` 2. Get CopilotKit Intelligence credentials: `npx --yes copilotkit@latest login`, `npx --yes copilotkit@latest project select`, `npx --yes copilotkit@latest license --write` 3. Fill the remaining required values in `.env` 4. Install and run: `bun install`, `bash scripts/start.sh` 5. Open <http://localhost:3010>.
